Film Noir + Welcome to the AndyRooniverse Tour

Posted by on Aug 24, 2011

Andrew Karnavas believes that the DIY model can work for independent musicians planning every aspect of their tour. The Houston singer-songwriter and Runaway Sun front man hits the road in September on a DIY solo tour with nine unique shows in five major cities spotlighting his debut Americana LP Film Noir and his newest family music project, AndyRoo and the AndyRooniverse. Karnavas has booked the shows and travel arrangements, created the tour posters, composed the tour press releases and sponsorship packets, crowd-sourced the tour funding, and designed the tour merchandise. After flying from Houston to NYC, Karnavas will play two shows at the acclaimed listening room on the Lower East Side, The Living Room, one show for adults on a Friday night and a show for kids on a Saturday afternoon. Then begins the “Megabus leg” of the tour with a solo show in Cambridge, Massachusetts at The Loft, followed by guitar-upright bass-violin trio shows at The Winchester Music Hall in Cleveland and at Goose Island Brewery in Chicago, and a kids show Sunday afternoon at the Chicago indie rock staple Beat Kitchen. Megabus is the first low-cost express bus service to offer city-to-city travel in the USA for as low as $1 via the internet. Karnavas took one of the first Megabus trips from Cleveland to Chicago when the service launched in April 2006. In five years, Megabus has expanded its service along the East Coast, and Karnavas has cut four albums with his various projects and sees a tremendous opportunity for independent touring musicians to use Megabus.  The tour will be documented on his web site with a multimedia journal including audio and video of live recordings, rehearsals, and the people and places he encounters on the road. “Now more than ever artists can tell their own stories, and I think that storytelling is just as important as the art in giving fans an opportunity to relate to their favorite artists.”

“Whether he’s transmitting info about his band Runaway Sun, his solo work, the oldies lounge project Bang Bang Boom or his burgeoning new children’s music venture, AndyRoo, musician Andrew Karnavas has cultivated his brand better than most anyone else, in the music business or otherwise.”

– Craig Hlavaty, Houston Press

“The energetic debut album from AndyRoo is bursting with imagination and creativity.  AndyRoo’s extensive music background provides a solid basis for an album that can be enjoyed by the entire family, over and over again!”

– Lauren Ramsey, Radio Host, Radio Disney 1590AM

“Film Noir develops theatrically, playing like a movie soundtrack, hinting at love lost and regret in a desolate-tinged Americana style-think Wilco but more sincere.”

-Shea Serrano, Houston Modern Luxury Magazine
